My niece 4 month in age has low hb and rbc count. We visited a child specialist a few days ago and he suspected for thalassemia. During physical examination he is of the view that her liver n spleen r enlarged. He advised a further blood test. Report is enclosed. Kindly advise further course of action
report does not support diagnosis of thalassemia. according to report ur baby most likely suffer from B12 or folic acid def. ur baby needs proper re evaluation by consultant paediatrician for proper diagnosis. thanks
A double picture is seen in this blood film. Most suppotive of hereditary elliptocytosis. Kindly visit a hematologist with serum b12, folate levels and iron profile. After sending the test start folic acid.
This report point towards severe anemia, but others cell lines are not mentioned here to looks for pancytopenia. Hb electrophoresis seems normal for her age but better to repeat after few months to get true picture. Others features of red cells
r also inconclusive, may concider megaloblastic anemia, liver disease, myelodysplasia, aplastic anemia ect. Her family history of blood disorders and cousin marriage should also be talen. First of all she should not be in anemic failure, concider a PRBC transfusion
and go to a heamatologist with this report for further investigations, going to simple pediatrician will b a waste of time at moment.
please attach all other reports as well. it's macrocytic anemia and can be due to Red cell aplasia
