person-avatar

Asking for Other, Male, 1 years old, Lahore

My son is 1 month and 5 days old, his belly button is sort of swollen and i am worried , I don’t have a good gut feeling about it. Got checked it by 2 paediatrician they said it is fine, but my previous children never had a belly button like this. Please guide a worried mom? What should I do?

It depends on size of swelling coming out during crying or stress. If it’s larger one then may needs surgery otherwise will resolve with time.

It is very not uncommon in children, it is umblocal hernia, it is mostly disapper with passage of time but if bot disappear even at the age of 5 years it then need surgery. So i recomend her to go and get paediatric general surgoen appointment if she is curiuos and their is change in size of swelling or color of swelling, otherwise dont worry. precautiin that dont let baby to cry like avoid from anything which upset and disturb baby and gonna cry.

This is probably a case of umbilical hernia which is a relatively common condition seen in babies.

If baby is feeding well and there are no concerns then nothing to worry about. It may take up to 2 years before it resolves.

If at any stage baby becomes unwell such as not feeding well, persistent vomiting or abdominal distension then must consult a paediatric surgeon immediately.

Hope this puts your mind at ease.
