Asking for Self, Female, 1 years old, Karachi
My daughter 13 months 10kg weight had severe dirrhea from last 9 days. 5 days ago she developed high fever. We consulted two diff doctors, one prescribed flagyl (for 7days) and other prescribed entamizole (for 5days) along with zincat OD and probiotics. We were confused between the two antibiotics and decided to give entamizole. Fever toh brufen se within 24 hours utar gaya but loose stools chal rhay hain. Today is the fifth day of her antibiotics course and she feels a little better today, has 4 dirrhea episodes today. My questions are
-Should i stop entamizole today(its 5th day) or continue it for 7 days.
-For cases like this which is a better choice of antibiotic, flagyl or entamizole?
continue entamizole for 7 days.(2 days more)
add biflore sachet once daily for 3 days
5 days Entamizole is enough and giving 7 days no harm so better to continue two more days and complete 7 days...
Complete two weeks of Zinc and contimue prebiotics for another 3 days
More yougurt, khichri and Low osmolar ORS if stools are loose....
Entamizole and flagyl both are same almost can be given anyone.......
will be fine dont worry â¹
Entamizole and Flagyl both contain same medicine (Metronidazole). Do not treat your children with antibiotics in Diarrhea unless it is proven bacterial infection on stool or blood tests. Majority of Diarrheas are Viral and settle down on their own by 1-2 weeks.
