Asking for Wife, Female, 39 years old, Bannu
My wife has a history of panic attacks that began around eight years ago. Initially, she was prescribed Rexil-CR 12.5 mg, which she used for three years. Her treatment was then shifted to Depex, which proved effective but caused gastrointestinal discomfort. After three to four years, her medication was changed to Preloft, which she has been taking for the past eight months. However, this too has resulted in persistent stomach issues. She now wishes to discontinue the medication due to these side effects, but whenever she stops, her psychological symptoms recur. We seek guidance on whether there is a safe way to stop the medication without aggravating her condition.

It’s not safe to stop panic attack medication suddenly, as this can worsen symptoms. Please consult her psychiatrist about gradually tapering the dose or switching to another medicine with fewer stomach side effects. Along with medication, therapies like CBT, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle changes (exercise, good sleep, avoiding caffeine) are very helpful for long-term control.

Medicines can help. If she gets panic definitely there are a glow of negative thoughts behind. Analysis of such thoughts and cognitive restructuring will help her a lot. Pl consult some professional
For all these years your wife have been taking half of the treatment. It was biased on the part of your wife's psychiatrist who did not recommend her to take psychotherapy. Psychotherapy and medicine both are the complete treatments for panic attacks. Please take an appointment. Your wife need psychotherapy urgently.
Psychiatric medicines should not be taken for this long. Please consider psychotherapy.
Pls consult a psychiatrist 1st
I don’t understand why so many medications? Anxiety is really common especially in women and sometimes resolves on its own and sometimes needs psychological consultation. And prescribing medication is the advance stage. But now because of too much medicine usage, she needs to gradually stop the medication, not immediately, and side by side take psychological consultation. I would be more than happy to help her in this regard.
The symptoms your wife is going through can be treated and managed with professional assistance and support. Please consult a therapist to overcome and manage these symptoms. Also do not stop taking the medication without consulting the specialist who prescribed them to avoid any withdrawal symptoms.
