Summary about Hairy Cell Leukemia in English

Hairy cell leukemia is a rare type of slow-growing blood cancer in which your bone marrow produces too many B cells (lymphocytes), a type of white blood cell that fights infections. Under the microscope, the abnormal white blood cells look hairy. As the number of leukemic cells increases, the production of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets decreases. Hairy cell leukemia affects more men than women and is more common in middle-aged and older adults. Hairy cell leukemia is considered a chronic disease because it may never completely disappear, although treatment may result in remission over time.
