Summary about Ichthyosis Vulgaris in English

Ichthyosis vulgaris is an inherited disorder of the skin in which dead skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin in the form of thick, dry scales. Scales of ichthyosis Vulgaris, sometimes called fish-scale diseases or corneal diseases, may be present at birth but are most often found in early childhood. Sometimes mild cases of ichthyosis Ichthyosis vulgaris is an inherited disorder of the skin in which dead skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin in the form of thick, dry scales. Scales of ichthyosis vulgaris, sometimes called fish-scale diseases or corneal diseases, may be present at birth, but are most often found in early childhood. Sometimes mild cases of ichthyosis vulgaris are not diagnosed because they are considered extremely dry skin. Most cases of ichthyosis vulgaris are mild, but some are serious. Sometimes other skin diseases, such as allergic dermatitis of the skin, are associated with ichthyosis vulgaris. No treatment for ichthyosis vulgaris has been found and treatments are focused on controlling the disease. As it is a hereditary disorder so no exact treatment is reported for this ailment but lactic acid and retinoid drugs are prescribed to lowers the severity of symptoms.

Symptoms of Ichthyosis Vulgaris

The following are the most prevalent symptoms of Ichthyosis Vulgaris:

  • Scales that are brown, gray, or white
  • Severely dry skin
  • Thickened skin
  • Flaky scalp
  • Itchy skin
  • Polygon-shaped scales on the skin

Causes of Ichthyosis Vulgaris

If genetic defects do not cause ichthyosis, it is referred to as acquired ichthyosis. It is frequently linked to other disorders such as:

  • Cancer
  • Thyroid disease
  • HIV/AIDS

Treatment
