Interstitial cystitis also is known as painful bladder syndrome, is a chronic condition that causes pressure in the bladder, pain in the bladder, and sometimes pelvic pain. The pain ranges from mild discomfort to intense pain. The bladder of any individual is a hollow and muscular organ it stores the urine. The bladder expands until it is full, indicating to the brain that it is time to urinate and communicate through the pelvic nerves. This causes the urge to urinate in most people. In interstitial cystitis, these signs are confused, you need to urinate more often and with less urine than most people. Interstitial cystitis often affects women and can have a lasting effect on the quality of life. Although there is no cure, medications and other therapies can help. This disorder can be treated with Physical therapy, oral medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, bladder distention or surgery.
