It is characterized by the rough, crusty and scaly patch on the skin that develops from years of exposure to the sun (UV rays). It is most commonly found on the face, lips, and ears, or on the back of hands, forearms, scalp or neck. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish one type of skin cancer (or precancerous lesion) from another. However, it is a classic actinic keratosis, flat, pink and scaly. Yes, you may be able to eliminate this crunchy wound with your fingers.  Actinic keratosis is a rough, scaly patch on your skin that develops after years of sun exposure. It is most commonly found on the face, lips, ears, back of the hand, forearm, scalp or neck. Actinic keratosis, also known as solar keratosis, increases slowly and usually causes no signs or symptoms, except for a patch or patch on the skin. These patches take years to develop. They usually appear in people aged 40 years. A small percentage of actinic keratosis may eventually turn into skin cancer. You can reduce the risk of actinic keratosis by minimizing your exposure to the sun and protecting your skin from UV rays. Initially, these are frequently so small that they are recognized by touch rather than sight. These may develop slowly and reach a size from an eighth to a quarter of an inch and sometimes they disappear at initial stages and appears again on later.

Symptoms of Actinic Keratosis

These may include;

  • The rough, crusty or scaly patch of skin, usually less than 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter
  • Slightly raised patch on the exposed layer of skin
  • In some cases, a hard, wart-like surface mu be experienced
  • Usually pink, red or brown colored
  • Itching or burning in the affected area may experience
