Summary about Syphilis in English

 Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disorder which is caused by the bacteria named as Treponema pallidum. The disease begins with a painless injury, usually in the genitals, rectum or mouth. Syphilis is transmitted from person to person through sexual contact only. It cannot be transmitted by coughing, sneezing, or by sharing food or drinks. After the first infection, the syphilis bacteria can remain in your body for decades before becoming active again. With the injection of antibiotics, syphilis can be cured. Without treatment, syphilis can severely damage the heart, brain or other organs and can be life-threatening. It can also be transmitted by the mother to the fetus.

Symptoms of Syphilis

It is characterized by painless sore typically on the infected genitals, rectum or mouth. It may also show the following symptoms

• Fever
• Feeling tired
• Sore throat
• Swollen glands
• Headache
• Muscle aches and cramps
• Weight or hair loss

Causes of Syphilis

This disease is caused by bacteria named as Treponema pallidum. It can begin as a painless sore affecting genitals. The affected person can transmit this disease to others via sexual contact.

Risk Factors of Syphilis

Likelihood for syphilis increases with some factors such as inconsistent use of condoms, homosexuality in men, and having multiple sex partners. Another major factor that can affect the occurrence of this ailment is not getting screened regularly. It is recommended that all sexually active individuals should get screened for syphilis at least once annually.

Preventive Measures of Syphilis

Prevention of syphilis is possible by practicing safe sex. Regular use of condoms and dental dams can save you from picking an infection. Further limiting the number of sex partners is also crucial. Getting screened for STIs regularly and avoid intimate contact with affected people is also necessary.
