Sciatica is a disease in which pain is radiated with the length of the sciatic nerve in the body towards the hips and each leg. The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated disc within the lumbar backbone, which compresses or irritates the nerve. This can cause sharp pain, tingling, or numbness within the buttocks and legs.
