Summary about Influenza in English

Influenza is an infectious disease which is caused by the influenza virus. It ranges from mild to severe in its symptoms. It is highly contagious and can be transmitted from infected individual to others. People with weak immunity and children are specifically at an elevated risk. Adopting hygienic practices, vaccination and staying away from affected people can save you from this infection.

Symptoms of Influenza

It is an infection caused by viruses and it affects the respiratory system involving lungs, throat, and nose. Common symptoms associated with it are:

  • Fever
  • Persistent dry cough
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Sweat
  • Watery eyes
  • Nasal discharge
  • Tiredness
  • Feeling weak
  • Bad throat

Causes of Influenza

This disease is caused by the influenza virus and can be transmitted from affected individual to others. Droplets from coughing, sneezing and nasal discharge can transmit these viruses easily. You can get these from the air or pick the infection from a surface or object by touching it and afterward transferring it to eyes and nose. A person affected from influenza can transmit the infection one day prior to having symptoms lasting five days after the appearance of symptoms.

Risk Factors of Influenza

Anyone can catch influenza however people with weak immunity and those in contact with affected persons are at an elevated risk of this problem. Other risk factors are:

  • Children
  • Pregnant women
  • People living in congested areas
  • Corpulence
  • The weakness of the immune system due to disease or certain therapies like chemotherapy

 

Preventive Measures of Influenza

To prevent this infection frequent hand washing, wearing a surgical mask and vaccinations are helpful. Annual vaccination for everyone above 6months of age is recommended to stay safe from influenza.
