It is a defect of heart that may be characterized by the mixing of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood and leads to the supply of this blood to the organs of the whole body.

It basically falls under the category of congenital heart defects (CHD). It is basically caused by-birth and leads to the bluish tint to the skin which is commonly known as cyanosis.
