This situation is commonly known as Arrhythmia. Heart rhythm problems (cardiac arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate the heartbeat do not work properly and make the heartbeat too fast, slow or irregular. Cardiac arrhythmias can give the impression of a heart that beats very fast and can be harmless. However, some cardiac arrhythmias can cause annoying signs and symptoms, sometimes even fatal. The treatment of cardiac arrhythmia can often control or eliminate rapid, slow or irregular heartbeats.
