Flaxseed oil contains more ALA than seeds because of its higher fat content.

    If your body has difficulties responding to insulin, it will require more to lower your blood sugar levels. This is known as insulin resistance, a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes.

    Flaxseed oil has a high lignan (a phenolic compound) that acts as a potent antioxidant. These antioxidants increase the insulin sensitivity needed by the body to avoid diabetes mellitus.

    Insulin sensitivity explains how your body has sensitivity toward insulin, and improving it can aid in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

    Another benefit of lignan in flaxseed oil is particularly presence of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG). According to animal studies, SDG has the potential to improve insulin sensitivity and delay the development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

    ALA from flaxseed oil has been linked to improved insulin sensitivity in both animals and humans.
