The medical condition of eyeballs pointing in different directions is termed as “squint” or “strabismus”. As we see a normal person with healthy eyes can focus with both eyes on an object. But for a person with a squint, one eye focuses normally and the other one focuses in a different direction. It is also termed as lazy eye. This condition is most commonly noticed in children and may surface in adults as well.

    Causes of Squint:

Many reasons can be counted as the cause of a squint. Such as:

    • Weak eye muscles
    • Nerve damage
    • Cataract
    • The weakness of part of the brain that controls eye movements.

    Why is Early Treatment Insisted?

Early diagnosis and treatment of squint are usually stressed because with age the eye muscles tend to adjust themselves to deviated vision and affix to a new position making treatment efficacy difficult.

    Treatment Options For Squint:

    Treatment options for squint include:

    Eye Glasses:

If the effect on your field of vision is not very much and squint is minimal it can be managed with the use of eyeglasses.

    Eye Patch:

Another popular method is to employ an eye patch. In this case, a good eye is covered with a patch and the lazy eye is left to work alone. This can improve the condition but it’s a very time taking procedure.

    Surgery:

To date, the best way to treat a squint is through surgery where muscles that move the eye are corrected. These procedures are perfected over the years by now and have 100% results. If you are looking for the treatment of squint visit The Eye Clinic and get your squint fixed by experienced and professional hands. These surgeries can easily be done on children as well and for medical reasons, it is advocated to get this condition addressed at an earlier age.

    What Are The Side Effects?

There are no reported side effects of the surgical treatment of squint. It is safe and well established. You have to take a few days to break from routine work and will experience some itching in eyes during the recovery period. To have maximum benefit from treatment follow post-surgery guidelines religiously.

    Post-Surgery Guidelines:

    Must follow post-surgery directions are:

    • Take proper rest from routine till you recover. This could be a few days.
    • It is suitable to wear glasses for 2-3 weeks to avoid dust and dirt getting into your eyes causing irritation.
    • Avoid swimming for a few weeks following surgery.
    • Do not look at the sunlight directly.
    • Delay cumbersome and massive work for a few weeks.
    • Visit your eye health professional regularly for a post-operative check-up.
Your eyes are a prime source to visualize this beautiful world and enjoy life. Take proper care of these and in case of any eye health issues consult the best eye specialists

    What if Not Treated?

Disadvantages of a squint are varied and wide. At school, such a kid may become the central point of practicing the crude sense of humor by fellows. Cosmetic reasons are also valid enough to consider as this condition hampers your appearance and presentability. Having a squint may also limit the choice of profession for your children. But besides psychological, social and cosmetic reason biggest reason to get this condition treated is to avoid amblyopia in the affected eye. To avoid all these complications and save your kid’s vision and self-confidence get this condition treated in time.
