Talk to General / Diabetic on Accident Wound

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 25 years old, Karachi

A few days back, i posted about my husband’s accident wound. Some of the doctors here suggested to apply polyfax and clean it with pyodine.

I was doing that, he visited a doctor and the doctor put a bandage over the wound for one day, and told us to take it off the next day.

The wound on the knee now looks like this (picture attached) it’s been 8 days to the accident.

Can the doctors please guide me what do i do further?

1) should i cover it with a bandage) 2) should i apply GREEN polyfax, instead of the blue one? 3) should i give him tablet augmentin as antibiotic?

I would suggest that you apply blue polyfax, the only difference between blue and green polyfax is that green contains xylocaine which would help with pain and since he does not have any pain... Blue polyfax twice a day is more than enough and there is no need for Augmentin at the moment.

Clean the wound with pyodine or saline, apply non adhesive dressing on it . Change dressing on alternative days until the wound is getting the top skin back. Get it checked if the colour got black or pus starts coming off. At this stage, wound is healing well.

Simply Clean the wound especially the margins that are dirty with pyodine and left it open, it will heal on its own. Incase of discharging fluid from the wound you can give antibiotic

Looks like the wound is healing. Continue with Polyfax plus. Is there any pus coming?any fever? If he is going out, you can apply polyfax and cover lightly. If there is fever or pus, only then we need to give antibiotics. Did he get Tetanus injection after the injury or in the past 5-10 years.

General Practitioner in Multan - Dr. Momal Fatima

the wound is healing clean it daily with normal saline or alcohol swab and apply polyfax. no need to cover it unless patient is going out . in that case cover it lightly with gauze piece.

Before starting antibiotic I would suggest to get a pus Cs /wound Cs done. You can give Tb Augmentin 1.2 gm bd. Keep it clean with pyodine and do regular dressing. Open wound is always at risk for infection so I suggest to give antibiotics.
