    What Are Dreams?

Before telling you about 15 common dreams and their meaning, let us tell you about the definition of dreams. Dreams are based on stories and images created by the brain during rapid eye movement sleeping (REM) produced by the brain stem and limbic system activation.

    common dreams and their meaning

    Types of Dreams

    There are five main types of dreams which are;

    • Normal dream (Common dreams about some experiences that we usually forget after waking up)
    • Daydreams ( Dreams that give us escape from our present throughout the day)
    • Lucid dreams ( Being entirely in control of your dreams while sleeping )
    • False awakening dreams ( Dreams which make us feel like we have woken but in reality we are still sleeping )
    • Nightmares ( Scary and disturbing dreams )

    Importance of Dreams

The father of psychology, Sigmund Freud, says that there are many subconscious thoughts which we need to identify and dreams are the route towards these subconscious thoughts. Dreams possess specific symbolic patterns which may help us to achieve the deeper meaning of our personalities. According to Eliza Boquin, a sex therapist and licensed psychotherapist at the flow and ease healing center, “dreams are considered subconscious thoughts, and they are the continuity of our thoughts for the whole day.”

    Recurring Dreams and their Meaning

    Now let’s discuss the top 15 common dreams and their interpretation according to the dream researches and studies by famous psychologists of the world. Here you go with this;

    1. Going about your regular day

The most common dream is seeing normal routines of life activities. For example, doing some office work, helping your children get done with work, picking up your children from school, cooking some food, or some other daily life tasks. These dreams may be interpreted as the daily habituation of work, and this is why our mind plays a role in creating dreams based on this content. Such dreams are usually meaningless, and researchers often take them as a psychological reaction towards daily life tasks.

    2. Running late to something important

One of the most recurring dreams is running to something meaningful. If we come to its interpretation, it may be because of the excessive worry we are taking for a specific event to happen correctly and without any disturbance. It can also occur because of working in a deadline-oriented job. This is why the mind has created a reaction of anxiety and worry during sleep, told by psychologists.  For example, if you have a presentation tomorrow or some critical meeting in which you have to speak something important, then as a result of future anxiety, your mind can play tricks on you.

    3. Falling into nothingness

The most common type of dream is seeing a nightmare based on falling into nothingness or a dark well. The experts have reviewed it as the prediction of something horrible to happen. It can be some stress, sadness, or loneliness currently going on in your life. According to Muslim scholars, they interpret it by relating it with Hazrat Yousaf’s story. You will face sorrow, worry, difficulties, and sadness for the time being, but then things will turn out into something better, and you will overcome this situation.

    4. Unable to call and shout

Most of the time, you may become unable to produce sound or shout while dreaming. According to experts, it can not be just a dream as it may happen because of sleep paralysis. During rapid eye movement sleep, our body may experience REM atonia which is naturally paralysis. And stops our body from moving physically. The space created during this mechanism between sleep and dream causes us unable to call and shout. It may last for few seconds, and after that state, you can come out from this. But if you are facing this situation too much, you may contact some experts psychologists in town.

    5. You are back in School

One of the most recurring dream types is seeing yourself back in school, as we all know that school was the very first job done by every individual. Therefore, most psychologists may interpret it as getting tired from the new professional life or work challenges of adult life. Anytime you feel pressure because of the newly coming professional phases of your life, you may see yourself back in your school. Then your mind may lead you to rest in the dream and a tour of your school so that a person may feel escape and happiness in his dream.

    6. You cheated on your partner

You can see in your dream that you have cheated on your partner. Most psychologists interpret it as the changing priority of a person. It might be possible that you are interested in some new activities such as a business, sports or planning something big. You may not realize that in your real life, but as you know, you have a subconscious mind which is aware of everything. In that situation, the subconscious mind tries to realize that you are maybe cheating. But that’s not true. These can be some hidden fears of priorities about your relationship.

    7. Your partner cheated on you

People often see that their partner is cheating on them. So if you see that your partner has cheated on you, then this does not mean your partner will do this. There can be a third wheel in this story. It might b possible that you had a toxic and insecure relationship with someone in the past. And the insecurity is still prevailing inside you. Therefore such insecurities come in the shape of dreams towards ourselves. Dreams are the subconscious content to which we are not ready to accept. In such scenarios, you need to identify some red flags in your relationship because of your hidden fearful experiences. Read more to know about relationship handling.

    8. Being naked in public

If you see yourself naked in a dream, then its interpretation may vary according to your response to it. If you are confident and feel good about being naked in public, this may show your urge to get the attention and collaboration of specific people. And on the other hand, if you feel ashamed and worry because of being naked in public, you may be hiding a big secret. And now you are fearful of showing that secret in front of others.

    9. Hanging out with a celebrity

Hanging out with a celebrity is also a common type of dream to see. If you see yourself hanging out with a celebrity, you may show that you like something about that celebrity. And if your friends are also in that dream, then surely you want to be recognized for something in front of them. You may see a celebrity in your dream if you think that you both have something in common.

    10. Falling out teeth

According to a famous Muslim dream interpreter, Ibne Sirin, if you dream of falling out teeth, this may depict that all of your relatives would die before your death. But this may vary according to the person’s belief system, and most of the time, these dreams may give meaningless interpretations.

    11. You’re being chased

The dream of being chased by someone is really common. Most of the people see themselves chased by a monster. If you know this dream too, let us tell you that experts have explained this monster as some addictions, indiscretion, or debt. Mostly the things we see in our dreams are a substitute for other items in our life.

    12. Seeing position or power

The interpretation of dreams is usually the opposite as compared to the content seen in dreams. Seeing yourself in a position of power is a commonly seen dream. You may see yourself holding enormous powers, abilities, and status in the dream but seeing such grandiosity may depict the opposite in reality.

    13. You’re pregnant

If you see that you are pregnant, then it means that something new is growing inside you. Most of the women know this dream, and they may confuse it with natural pregnancies. But that’s not the case; you can have something else developing inside you. Maybe a skill, promotion, or an ability.

    14. Meeting a deceased family member

This dream can be explained in many ways. Most of the time, people see they are meeting a deceased family member. If your deceased family member is giving the signs that they have come up for taking you with them, it shows that your time is near death. But that can be a dark stereotype too. You may see such dreams because of attachment to that particular person or missing that person a lot.

    15. Impossible scenarios

Dreams are the psychological reaction of our brain working. When we sleep, our brain is creating content. Sometimes it recurringly shows you some impossible scenarios. There are many explanations for this common type of dream. You may experience considerable difficulties in real life, and something seems impossible to you, then this trouble may reflect in your dreams.

    Final Notes

Well, it’s not essential that all dreams have meanings, but they are also not meaningless. Many dream interpreters have considered dreams as a critical tool for the manifestation of unrevealed things. If you feel trouble and problems because of recurring dreams, you may contact a psychologist for your help.
