I am 25 weeks pregnant also thalassemia minor patient.My hb is 7.9 . I am taking ferrous sulphate tablets and maltofer syrup but still my hb is getting low every month.Dr said may be I have worms so she suggested me vermox tablet.Is it save to use . And what should i do to increase my hb

Get your iron levels checked because in thalassemia the cause of anemia is not iron deficiency but instead the Hb is low because the blood breaks down quickly. Also sometimes in thalassemia if iron is given it may cause iron overload, so first thing you should do is to check your iron levels, if it is low you may continue iron supplements otherwise you may need blood transfusion for your anemia. Regarding worm infestation and vermox treatment it is usually not recommended to be taken in pregnancy unless very necessary.

my dr suggested me infusion of iron .I heard that infusion of iron is harmful for thalassemka minor patients

Yes you should first get iron levels checked and if it is low then only take the infusion of iron otherwise it would be harmful for you. In thalassemia patients anemia is not due to iron deficiency instead iron levels are usually high and so an infusion of iron may cause iron overload

vermox is safe..improve ur diet n if hb isnot rising , u will have to go
for blood transfusion, u should hv atleast 11 hb till the time of birth

Infusion of iron possible .is this test enough aur should i go for serrum ferritin test
