Talk to Gynecologist on Mensturation

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 25 years old, Karachi

Aoa, My query is for a gynecologist. From the past few years I'm having my periods for a maximum of 3 days. I used to have it for 4-5 days maximum but now it has reduced down to only 3 days maximum. And now recently(4-5 months ago) the blood doesn't come out unless I go to the washroom to urinate or sit in squatting position. Blood is less now but the tissues/lumps are more visible. Looking forward to the response. Thankyou.

Walikum salam. There are many resons for a decreased menstrual blood flow, including hormonal imbalance, iron deficiency, medicine side effect if your are taking any, birth control pills if you are using , stress, recent weight loss, etc. Sometimes the cycle changes gradually to a new pattern without any reason. If your cycle is regular but with decreased flow and you do not have any other symptoms a flow for 3 days is normal, but if you have pain, missed periods or any other symptoms you should see your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Allhamdulillah there's no irregular cycle. I'm just concerned about the 3 day time period, like is it normal ? Because I never had a full 6-7 days periods. Also I'm unmarried, so there's no chance of birth control pills, however I've put on too much weight in a very short time.

As long as the cycle is regular a flow of 3 days is normal. It does not need to be 6 to 7 days. And yes sudden weight changes can change the cycle pattern.
