Post this as anonymous- if any doctor or gynecologist or mother could guide me on fetal portal vein dilation ? On my 32 weeks plus ultrasound the scan shows fetal portal vein dilation of 11 mm almost What does that mean and how serious it is and could it be just an ultrasound error or it actually stays like this after birth ? What complications does the baby face after birth ? I want clear cut genuine answers no comfort just someone who experienced this ? Or some medical professional who would guide ? I would be interested to know that are you under the care of a good gyne team? if yes then they should be able to guide you further, but this finding can be associated with fetal venous system blood abnormalities as well as other developmental issues with the baby.The outcome of pregnancies with FIUV varix is generally favorable. The finding of a FIUV varix should prompt the search for other anomalies, especially markers of downs Syndrome.
