Do you like to listen to music during your leisure time? Or do you prefer to play music while doing something? Have you felt good while listening to music after a bad day? If so, you must know science has also proved the healing effects of music. Do you want to understand how music heals?

Music is an art form that expresses ideas and emotions through beautiful states, such as rhythm, melody, tones, harmony, humming, etc. Everyone enjoys the feeling of the music, and there is always music playing that corresponds to your mood. Music does not have to be worldly to impact your mind, but instrumental music can heal you wonderfully as well.

According to a famous saying, music has no language. There is no barrier when it comes to music. People worldwide listen and enjoy music in foreign languages they don’t understand. Music becomes the medium to connect people. Music is a universal thing. The human brain reacts differently due to music. And this phenomenon is essential to understand how music heals.

Music’s influence is surprising given that researchers believe it has healing properties, particularly in stressful and vulnerable situations. Music, according to neuroscientists, stimulates a rise in dopamine, which can make us feel good, and music has an overall effect on the human mind.

How Music Heals vs. Different Generations:

Before science, Sufism also depicts the importance of music. Many Sufi poets and musicians work on music for humans’ mental and physical healing. The older generations like Gen X (1970s) were fonder of qawwali.

Qawwali is a type of Sufi music indigenous to the subcontinent. Qawwalis typically begin gently and gradually build to a very high energy level to induce hypnotic states in both the musicians and the audience or listeners. Qawwali singers like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, and many others from Pakistan have international fame.

Rock and Pop music genres are famous among millennials. Although slow, soothing music is also loved by many, people from this generation like both pop and slow-core genres. Songs of pop music bands like Vital signs, Junoon, etc., are still healing tools for millennials. This generation also has a significant influence on Indian music and Bollywood songs.

But when it comes to Gen-Z, they can’t deny their love for rap and hip-hop music. With easy access to international music, the young generation loves the music of international musical bands. Nowadays, one famous and most influential music industry is K-pop (Korean music). Even though the lyrics of the K-pop songs are not understandable by most listeners, they have crazy fandom.

BTS is a well-known K-pop band that has even represented youth at the United Nations. They joined forces with UNICEF to help end violence, abuse, and bullying and promote self-esteem and well-being among children and youth worldwide.

So, now you can understand how music influences different generations with time.

How Music Heals Your Mind And Soul?

When you are overcome with emotion, music comes to your aid and makes you feel better. Music Therapy is underappreciated; it can aid in the healing process on an ongoing basis. Music appears to affect our health and well-being, thus healing us in the process.

Aids To Reduce Stress And Anxiety:

Studies have shown that listening to music with a slow tempo or instrumentation can relax and calm people even during a highly stressful or painful event. Music can reduce anxiety while also increasing heart rate and blood pressure.

    Music For Pain Management:

Music has an unrivaled ability to help with pain management. Patients undergoing spine surgery were instructed to listen to desired music a few hours before their surgery and until the next day after their surgery in a study conducted by The National Center for Biotechnology Information. When it came to post-surgery pain levels, the group that listened to music had significantly less pain than the group that didn’t.

    Music And Workout:

While working out, many of us enjoy listening to various types of music. Music helps us concentrate on exercise, which keeps us from looking at the watch over and over. While exercising, listen to upbeat music to increase oxygen intake.

    Music And Self-Esteem:

Many people claim that motivational songs’ lyrics drastically improve their self-esteem, confidence, and mental health. As music can make you happy and change your mood, many people feel an increase in their self-confidence and self-esteem with the help of music.

    Music Promotes Good Sleep:

Music can also help with relaxation by soothing the autonomic nervous system, which controls automatic or unconscious processes. Music promotes sleep by calming parts of the autonomic nervous system, resulting in slower breathing, a more stable heart rate, and lower blood pressure. – National Sleep Foundation.

If you are fighting any mental stress and anxiety, you can better discuss it with the health professional to understand and diagnose your problem.
